Review:

The Princess of a Whorehouse is a book that deals with a topic which needs to be handled very sensibly. It is very sensitive and delicate topics and requires very careful handling and narration not to distort the essence of the book. And I must say that the author has done a wonderful job in churning out a very soulful and sensitive story out of this delicate topic.

The central characters of the books are Ramya and her daughter Aparajita. Ramesh, Ramya’s husband works in a coal mine and one day loses his life in an accident due to mine blast. The world of Ramya comes crashing down with the demise of her husband who is then sold by her husband’s friend, Anjum, into flesh trade. Uneducated and married at a young age made Ramya vulnerable and a harsh twist of fate lands her in the trade. However, to provide a good future to her daughter, she accepted her fate pledging not to compromise on her daughter’s future.

The stigma of being a daughter of a sex worker follows Aparajita everywhere but she continues to fight against the society norms never afraid to tell the truth of her mother’s occupation. From this point the story largely follows the journey of Aparijita and how she stands tall against all odds.

The Princess of a Whorehouse is definitely a different and intriguing story and the author has done a wonderful job in creating such a beautiful book. I simply loved the way how the characters were portrayed and the events that followed to build the story.

The Princess of a Whorehouse is a heart touching story and a very interesting read indeed. I loved reading it and enjoyed it thoroughly. The cover of the book is very interesting and catchy.

All in all the book is a realistic tale of the difficulties faced by sex workers presented in an interesting manner and is recommended to all who love reading emotional stories.

Review:

Finding Juliet by Toffee is a teenage romance novel which may attract the audience looking for light, sensuous read. The book is definitely not meant for serious readers. The talks about true love but ultimately ends into saga full of sex scenes.

The book is a mushy love tale revolving around two main characters- Arjun and Anjali. The male protagonist is desperately looking for love and due to his weak personality, becomes a flirtatious character due to circumstances. This aspect of the male protagonist portrayed is not something I liked. It is a breezy read with many erotic scenes and may go well with readers looking for such a read.

The language used by the author in “Finding Juliet” is simple and easy to follow but there are several typo and other errors which were annoying. The language used is more like a casual conversation that most youngsters use now a days.

The title and cover are interesting and grabs the attention with the first glance. The plot is ok full of teenage romance with some clichéd elements like liquor, girls, sex and there is nothing new in it. This novel is as much about lust as it is about love. The author juggles between these two.

Also the author keeps on mentioning about the character being an engineer. Why does it become necessary to forcing such instances just to make everyone believe about his geeky intellect? Many a times the narration appeared repetitive.

The simple and straight forward story with a Bollywood movie style feel could not impress me. Everything the author has presented seems more like his imagination.The ending was also abrupt and sudden.

Overall, Finding Juliet by Toffee is an average read which may be enjoyed by readers looking for a light and erotic read. Admirers of clean literature will definitely not like it. Recommended to those who like reading erotic novels.

Overall 2 stars plus one for the efforts put by the author.

These Circuses that Sweep Through the Landscape is a collection of ten short stories which grabs the interest of the reader from the first page itself. The stories are very short but the impact they have on the reader is very powerful. Some of the stories can be said to be microtales, yet they did their job in impressing me.

Each and every story deals with the complex human emotions. They are intense, emotional and thoughtful that compel you to think about the complexity of human behaviour and psychology. The narration is so powerful with strong and vivid imagery that every story appears like a short film unfolding right before your eyes. The author has done a marvellous job in intriguing the readers’ interest. It is very difficult to engage and entertain a reader with a short story as they are supposed to give us a plot, substance, back story, emotions, characters, settings, etc. in a few pages. Yet at the same time they are required to stay with the reader long after s/he finishes the book. And I must say that the author has become successful in achieving this.

Another aspect of the about that impressed me was the variety of topics chosen by the author.

The writing style is crisp and to the point without the usage of any unnecessary prose. The language is simple and easily understandable yet engaging.

The cover of the book is very attractive. Simple yet elegant. There are not many pages in the book therefore can be finished in a single sitting. A quick read.

In a nutshell, “These Circuses That Sweep Through the Landscape” by Tejaswini Apte-Rahm is a highly engaging book that has all the ingredients of keeping the reader hooked to it from the very beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Recommended to everyone who love reading good stories especially short stories dealing with complex human emotions.

Review:

A Walk In The Rain is beautiful love story full of action, drama and emotions. I loved the theme of the book which is an action packed adventure full of nail-biting twists. A walk in the rain revolves around two main characters: Sunny, and Saloni. Sunny is a bitter, misogynistic man who hates the world. Even when he needs Saloni’s help, he can’t bring himself to trust her. Life has been hard on Saloni. In spite of her desperate straits, she manages to hold on to her small shred of self-respect.

The book is a romantic thriller with emotions of love and friendship. This sweet and simple love story stands out from the rest of the books. The twists in the book create reader’s interest.

The cover of the book depicting a serene pair walking in the rain is simply mesmerising. A walk in the rain takes you on a roller coaster ride of love, romance, emotions, revenge, friendship and action with lots of twists and turns. It’s a feel good book and a refreshing read. The timeline of the story is very short, yet you will live each and every hour of the story as everything is real.

Simple usage of words with deep depiction of the details within every scene play into our mind with clear flow without boring. But at some places, the narration felt to be a bit long and stretched. As a debut author, the writer has done a good job though there were minor flaws which slowed down the flow of the book. However, overall I enjoyed reading it. Light, easy to comprehend and fresh.

A walk in the rain is a light love story with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. It is a nice, one time read suitable to read during a flight. If you are looking for a refreshing, entertaining book then you must go for it.

Review:

Lanka's Princess is a book by Kavita Kane who has penned many bestsellers based on mythological characters in the past. I have read Karna’s Wife written by her and have loved it.

Lanka’s Princess is the story of Surpanakha, Ravana’s sister, who is often held responsible to instigate Ravan to abduct Sita, and sparked war between Ram and Ravana. She is a grey shaded character who has always been portrayed as an antagonist in the Ramayana. Surpanakha which means the woman as hard as nails was born as Meenakshi. She is one of the misunderstood characters of Ramayana. An unwanted child and described as ugly and dark by her own mother, Meenakshi suffers a lot. It was interesting to read her story and the author has also done a marvellous job in bringing her into life in the pages of the book.

She even as a young girl, was constantly at the receiving end of her mother’s hatred. Both the parents take sides: with the mother siding with Ravana and the father taking side of Vibhishana. Meenakshi aka Surpanakhaa’s birth was a disappointment for them that she could never really get over. She was mostly disregarded and always bore the wrath of her mother’s ire until one day Kuber shows up at her place threatening to abduct her. It is at this point that she shows her mother what she is made of and she is finally accepted by her mother into the family (although it is short lived).

Often we tend to love or hate a particular character, be it in a fiction or real life. But what we usually forget are the circumstances that construct the character into what it is currently. After reading the book, we come across the life of this infamous character of Ramayana which compels us to think more about her.

From the very beginning, I was hooked to the book which is highly intriguing. I loved the way the author has narrated the story and depicted various characters from Surpanakha’s eyes. The book is a sure page turner and a must read for all who are interested in mythological fiction.

Colorful Notions : The Roadtrippers 1.0 is a book about 3 friends who go on a road trip and ultimately leads to a journey of self discovery, redemption and life.

The book is the story of Abhay, Shashank and Unnati who venture into a road trip across India and decide to make a documentary out of it.

The story revolves around these three youngsters in their early twenties who take an idea of travelling throughout India across 25 different places of cultural and historic significance. The planned journey starts from New Delhi and then moves on to other places like Corbett Park, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Manali and Ladakh, Wagah Border and Golden Temple Amritsar, Bhangarh Fort Alwar, Jaipur and Jaiselmer, Mount Abu, Udaipur, Rann of Kutch, Ellora Caves, Goa, Mysore, Kanyakumari, Rameswaram, Hyderabad, Puri, Kolkata, Bodh Gaya, Varanasi, Taj Mahal and ends at the Jama Masjid in Delhi.

All these three friends have their back story and these characters have good contrast presenting an interesting read. Abhay, who is the producer director and editor of the movie, is not in good terms with his parents who are divorced. Shashank is a foodie which I feel is a smart move to include in a book about travel. Unnati captures the locales in her camera with a narration of every place in her voice in the background.

I feel the author has taken too many places due to which he failed to describe in detail about each of them. Some of the incidents and scenes are highly dramatic which make them a bit unnatural.

The title of the book is interesting and apt and you come to know its real meaning by the end. The cover is very beautiful and completely justifies the theme of the book.

Overall I enjoyed reading the book a lot which was a definite page turner for me. Recommended for all who like to read light novels with a beautiful story.

This story is all about three protagonists or lead characters Jai, Vivek and Akash who belong to three entirely different background and are united together with the bond of friendship. Initially the novel started with their lives and later on shifted towards launch of a forum by them where people could come and express their feelings freely, without any apprehensions and this is the why there are several sub stories that make the lead characters realise about their potential and what all they can do in life.

Trying to cope with the outside world while struggling with their own inner conflicts, when the three protagonists decide to set a start up, they perhaps themselves didn’t know this forum of their would lead themselves. To make it big in this big bad world, when they start this venture where anyone or everyone could come and vent out their feelings via videos on their forum, they seldom knew that all their confusion would be sorted out due to this startup/forum.

Confused Bastards is a book which is voice of the youth. The story is believable and a feel good one where a subtle message is passed on in a very innovative and quirky manner. There are man takeaways from the book to inspire the youth of current era. I personally liked the fresh and simple writing style of the book and the concept was also good. The cover is very relevant and clearly showcases the gist or theme of the book. The title is also catch and creates curiosity among readers.

I would like to congratulate the author Manav Vigg for penning down such a fresh story which is definitely a page turner. I enjoyed reading the book.

Overall a fresh, witty novel, recommended to all who are looking for a good light read with some good message.
